WE NOW RECYCLE YOUR OLD SHINGLES!!!!

The Unites States generates about 11 million tons of waste asphalt roofing shingles each year. Re-roofing jobs generate 10 million tons, with another 1 million tons generated from roofing scrap.

Our/your shingles are recycled and used to make asphalt that paves the roads of New England. We are doing our part and hope you will do the same by choosing a leader/pioneer in the roofing industry, striving to be the benchmark as a “green” environmentally friendly company.

We hope that you will consider BCI Contracting, Inc. for your project.

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

BCI Contracting, Inc. has partnered up with The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund as a way to give back to the Men and Woman who have sacrificed so much for our country.

A portion of the proceeds collected from your project will be donated to:
The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is a leader in supporting the men and women of the Armed Forces and their families. Begun in 2000 under the auspices of the Intrepid Museum Foundation, and established as an independent not-for-profit organization in 2003, the Fund has provided close to $60 million in support for the families of military personnel lost in service to our nation, and for severely wounded military personnel and veterans. These efforts are funded entirely with donations from the public, and hundreds of thousands of individuals have contributed to the Fund. 100% of contributions raised by the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund go towards these programs; all administrative expenses are underwritten by the Fund’s Trustees.

In January 2007 the Fund completed construction of a $40 million world-class state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation center at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. The “Center for the Intrepid” serves military personnel who have been catastrophically disabled in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and veterans severely injured in other operations and in the normal performance of their duties. The 60,000 square foot Center provides ample space and facilities for the rehabilitation needs of the patients and their caregivers. It includes state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation equipment and extensive indoor and outdoor facilities. The Center is co-located with two 21-room Fisher Houses that house the families of patients (www.fisherhouse.org).

Facts and Statistics
To date more than 20,000 men and women have been wounded in operations in Afghanistan and Iraq

According to U.S Senate research, is that the amputation rate has doubled: 6% of those injured in Iraq have amputations compared with 3% in previous wars.

As of April 30, there were 268 amputees, 41 of whom had lost two limbs. There are triple amputees, according to Walter Reed Officials. Unfortunately, these numbers will continue to rise.

Over all 90 percent of soldiers wounded in Iraq survive. In Vietnam, only 76 percent of the wounded did so.

Hundreds of soldiers have been severely burned, and some initial reports indicate that soldiers have suffered eye injuries at a rate far higher than any previous war.

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund has contributed over $14 million to military families, but as the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan continue, unfortunately many more families will need our help.

BE COOL this summer and get a Cool Roof system

BCI Contracting, Inc. is now offering “cool roofing” systems.

WHAT IS A COOL ROOF?
Simply put, a Cool Roof is a light-colored commercial roofing system that reflects the sun’s heat and damaging rays and readily emits any absorbed solar heat, thereby lowering the roof and building temperature and protecting the roof from sunlight degradation. The potential impact of installing a Cool Roofing System is impressive–-studies show reduced cooling energy demand in buildings by up to 50%. A Cool Roof commercial roofing system saves money, last longer with lower maintenance costs, help reduce power plant emissions, improve air quality, and cut landfill waste.

Approximately $40 billion is spent annually in the United States to cool buildings, one-sixth of all energy consumed annually. Black and dark-colored roofing materials can dramatically increase a building's cooling load. Energy-efficient roofing systems, also called "cool roofs", can reduce roof temperature by as much as 100°F during the summer, and thereby reduce the building's energy requirements for air conditioning. Cool roofs reflect the sun's radiant energy before it penetrates into the interior of the building. In fact, reflective materials also help keep the building's neighborhood cool.

Heat Island Effects
A cool roof not only benefits the building that it is installed on, but also the surrounding neighborhood. In the summer, major urban areas become heat islands, where temperatures can soar 4° to 8°F degrees above the temperature in the surrounding area. This rise in temperature corresponds to a rise in harmful ozone, and therefore smog levels in the urban air. For every degree above 70°F, the incidence of smog increases 3%. A city of buildings with reflective roofs will not experience this effect as strongly. A recent study by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL)'s Heat Island Group found that if the buildings in Los Angeles were upgraded with reflective roofs, the city could save $35 million per year in energy costs.

Measure your Roof for Shingles

While installing the roof it is very important that you buy all that you are going to need in appropriate quantity and in advance. You definitely would not want to rush to the market in the middle of the installation to buy additional stuff. If you are not adequately prepared it may affect the quality and the time taken to install the roof. Thus it is important that you plan properly and properly measure your roof for shingles before hand, when you are about to lay your roof shingles. This should save you from any trouble of having to go in the middle of the installation to buy more shingles.

However you must measure your roof for shingles properly because whereas you wouldn’t want to rush to the market in the middle of the installation and at the same time you wouldn’t want to be saddled with extra shingles.

It is actually quite simple to measure a roof for shingles for determining how many shingles you are going to need. A shingle of one square will cover an area of 100 sq feet of the roof. A contractor always measures a roof for shingles like this when he has to determine the number of shingles he will need. You should also place your order accordingly. A square of regular asphalt shingles has three shingle bundles in it. Each of these bundles carry twenty seven shingles.
Just measuring the perimeter of your roof will not be sufficient for determining the number of shingles you are going to need. There is something more to it that you should know about measuring the roof for shingles.

There are many types of shingles and buying only one type of shingle is not enough. For a complete installation of shingles you need different types of shingles. Without it the installation of the roof cannot be complete. How much you want to cover your roof means the number of layers of protection you are looking for. For instance, asphalt roofs which are laid on sloping roofs usually have only one layer. How to measure a Roof for Shingles
The incline (slope) of the roof is called a ratio. The slope is determined by measuring the vertical rise inches, per inches of the flat (horizontal) run. For instance, a roof having 3:12 slope means that at every flat space of 12 inches the roof is rising by 3 inches. The slope/angle of the roof will tell you how many shingles you should buy and what types of shingles you shall need and should order. Of course, it also depends on how you decide to measure the roof.

The best and the easiest way to measure your roofs for shingles is that you go to the roof with a measuring tape. In case you don’t want to take the trouble or the risk of climbing the roof then you can measure the floor area of the house. You add to this area, the overhanging areas, and then multiply it by the conversion factor which is determined according to the slope of the roof. Another point you must keep in mind when you measure a roof for shingles is that you need shingles for the ridge/hip area of the roof too. You will need at least 4 complete shingles for each ridge measuring 5 linear feet.

Thus if you keep all these tips in mind when you proceed to measure your roof for shingles, you will not make any mistake in buying them and will save yourself a lot of trouble too!

As Long Island, LI Roofing Contractors, and Northern Virginia Roofing contractors we take great pride in maintaining customer satisfaction for all types of new roof installation and roof repair work for residential and commercial roofing accounts.
